Abstract

Garlic can improve the immune system, growth indicators, and be effective in the prevention of infectious diseases. To study the effect of garlic powder on growth factors and the survival of Black tetra larvae, a survey using 6 aquariums of 150 liters with a size of 60 x 50 x 50 cm was conducted. An aeration system with a stocking density of 50 fish per aquarium was used. A completely randomized design (CRD) with one replication was performed. The larvae were divided, fed, and reared into three groups with three diets. The groups included the control group with only Biomar diet, the first group with Biomar diet and garlic powder (5 g/kg), and the second group with Biomar diet and double the amount of garlic powder (10 g/kg). The larvae rearing continued for five weeks, and at the end, the obtained data were analyzed statistically. The results showed that the survival rate (SR) and growth factors such as specific growth rate (SGR), body weight index (BWI), and daily growth rate (GR) in the first and second groups were better than the control group. However, in most cases, the changes were not statistically significant (p>0.05) but the mean weight changes of the studied groups in the second, third, and fourth weeks were statistically significant (p≤0.05). Therefore, feeding with the diet Biomar and garlic powder can improve the survival and growth factors.
